The cashier at the supermarket where I buy my “fancy water”,
we have been smiling and exchanging cordial greetings to each other.
Today she opened up, in tears of despair,
she’s depressed, barely functioning or washing her hair.
A single mom responsible for 2 growing children,
a hard worker losing herself in a fog.
A fellow commuter and I exchanging a rare smile,
the woman calling out “ I like your dress!” as I hurriedly rush home from work.
These moments make NYC feel less robotic and cold. Each of the 9 million with thoughts, feelings, tears and joys.
